Village X App app for iPhone and iPad

This is a crowdfunding app for community-led projects in developing countries, starting in Malawi and Ghana. The App allows users to give to a project directly or via a campaign for that project. Individuals and businesses create urgent campaigns by setting reasonable fundraising goals and short timeframes. Campaign creators leverage their personal and professional networks to achieve their fundraising goals. As usual, when a user donates to a completely transparent grassroots project, she receives live picture updates of impact coming from the ground. Applying our Peace Corps expertise and networks, we find and vet projects in underserved communities at a fraction of the cost of conventional NGOs. Communities invest their money, do most of the work, and receive the lions share of benefit.

Our model is special because it fosters community development that is locally-led, efficient, cost-effective, and transparent. We routinely support projects completed by communities within weeks of funding that cost at least 30% less than the going NGO rate. We also insist that communities contribute 20% of the overall cost (including 5% in cash) and provide live picture updates of project progress.
